Crankbait Bass Fishing

So, you head to your local bass pro shops store, and take a turn down the crankbait aisle. What do you think you see?

You see hundreds, if not thousands of baits, all different sizes, shapes, builds, dive depths, and colors. Where on earth are you supposed to get started? How do you just choose a lure out of the massive amounts to choose from?

Sounds pretty impossible, doesn't it? Yet this is exactly what I did when I first started fishing, and it is still what so many people do today. Maybe they see a crank on a fishing show, and decide to mimic what the pros are doing. Or maybe they just say, "Well, that looks pretty good."

With that many choices, those are fairly reasonable things to do.

The key to good crankbait fishing, is to understand how the seasons dictate bass behavior, and why. The seasons of the year are the big key here.

Here is a quick and short list to get you started. Now this isn't all inclusive, but it is a good starting point:

  • Pre-spawn and early fall- shallow running crankbaits
  • Spawn- shallow running cranks that look like panfish (eg. bluegill and pumpkinseed)
  • Late Spring and Fall- Medium running cranks
  • Summer and Winter- Deep divers

Again, this brief list is only intended to be a jumping off point for you.

It is very critical to understand the bass behaviors that are at play here. Each one of the seasons will affect how the bass behave, feed, and react to your baits.

Bass fishing is a constant learning process. You have to study fish behavior to be able to catch fish!

Bass Fishing With The Clouser Minnow

Those who never fly fished before tend to label the sport under a single huge umbrella. If this uses a fly rod, it's fly fishing, in basic terms.

Yet, things are not that simple. Just as common fishing, procedures and strategies may vary generally dependant upon the species you are targeting. You would not make use of the exact same strategies you use to get perch in North carolina if you were sport fishing for walleye in Mn.

Flyfishing isn't different. While plenty of people think of the hobby, people think of trout fishing. Definitely, this can be a very fine species to focus on and also pursue, but there's a lot more to it than that. Actually, bass fishing with a fly rod can be an utter blast, when you know precisely what you are doing plus you've got the suitable stuff.

Right away, that is one huge "if," due to the fact if you've only ever before fished to get trout, then you are going to need to have newer and more effective products. Let us check the actual equipment you need, and also let us play specific close attention to the Clouser Minnow, as it is a remarkable answer for getting largemouth bass!

The Tackle You Will Want

To start with, probably you will have to change your rod and reel. Hooking bass, whether largemouth or smallmouth, will demand some reasonably sizeable gear. I recommend not less than a six weight fly fishing rod, with a seven weight in all likelihood being ideal.

This would offer you ample back bone to tangle with some big fish, and provide more than enough gumption to fire flies for long distances, which is from time to time highly needed.

I also tend to like a fly line having a sinking tip. You'll find it accurate that bass do nourish themselves on the top of the water from time to time, but I have gotten greater luck getting deep while using Clouser Minnow.

Easy Methods To Fish With The Clouser Minnow

Since you have your set up right, you need to get to work while using the Clouser. If this is going to be your very first time angling using it, we shall proceed little by little in order to help you get your feet wet.

Before anything else, look for a undercut bank on your own favored stream, if possible one with a tree suspending over it in to the river. At present, throw up-stream and allow the fly to float under the bank and also the tree. Be patient right here! It is important to never begin your retrieve too quickly.

As soon as the fly gets itself under the bank, you have to get started stripping the line. Offer it 2 effective strips repeatedly, and then temporarily stop for one moment, subsequently give several more strips. Continue this pattern until it's time to cast the fly once again.

While it looks very easy to use, the most difficult part will be watching for the fly to get deep enough. This is a simple run-down of angling for striped bass when using the Clouser Minnow.

Pflueger President Review

The Pflueger President spinning reel is among one of these fantastic bits of sport fishing tools which has been used for some time, which will keep on being employed for years into the future. It is adaptable and sturdy, it will last for years of tough sportfishing.

Furthermore, it is a very inexpensive choice for the product quality it offers. Gear like that from another company might cost 100's of dollars, however President line can be acquired without breaking your budget. The reality that a good fishing reel of this good quality may be bought cheaper than $100 also causes it to be the ideal option for whoever has a few rods that will require a fishing reel, or perhaps anyone who is buying a rod and reel for young children.

Let us take a closer look at a number of the attributes of the Pflueger President.

Sizes

Dependant upon the type you get, the President collection will range between 6-8 oz, along with have a line volume of 100-120 yards. The smaller designs tend to be absolutely suitable for youngsters simply just getting started.

They are easy for them to manage, but will have a smaller amount of a likelihood of getting all garbled up.

Bearings

Bearings are needed mainly because they are going to determine just how nicely a fishing reel essentially reels. The greater bearings it offers, the smoother the retrieve is going to be,

The President collection ranges from 8 bearings to ten bearings according to the version you finally choose. Simply because certain designs include a lesser amount of bearings, it does not appear to disrupt the actual retrieval motion whatsoever. It merely helps make the fishing reel lighter weight and simpler to control, again, allowing it to be a fantastic possibility for boys and girls.

Changing The Drag

Like most spinning reels, the Pflueger President offers it's drag button just above the actual spool. The real difference is with the drag mechanism itself. It's well constructed, which makes it quite smooth. Regardless of how heavy, or even how light you set your own drag, you do not locate hinderance while you are sportfishing.

You're able to really lock down this particular drag and horse several largemouth bass away from huge cover. And also, you may set it up fairly light, and let the fish to display off her battling abilities somewhat more. It's your choice, but it's the versatility of the fishing reel which makes this all possible.

2 Different Types

The President is now made available in two different models, or "incarnations" as it were. There is the old classic President, and then, the XT.

In the less heavy types, this XT shall be lighter weight when compared to the Classic, though that weight advantage fades away on the large sizes. The XT is essentially an upgrade in bearings and components which can help this reel last longer and also fish tougher.

Both are really fantastic choices any kind of anglers who desires a good, low-priced spinning fishing reel alternative, try the Pflueger President today!

5 Great Lures For Summer Time Bass Fishing

Summer time is here, and most places around the US are experiencing it in full effect. That means all sorts of hot weather and tough fishing. When that sun is high in the air, it's not always fun to be out there with no fish biting.

This short list of 5 killer lures for summer time comes from personal testing on the water, and reading hundreds of tackle reviews as well. Give them a try and see just how good they can be.

1. Jackall Crosstail Shad

This bait has a very unique tail that gives it some crazy action in the water!

It is especially effective used while drop shotting. The drop shot rig puts the bait right in the thermocline were the bass are hanging out, trying to keep cool. When this little guy gets in front of them, they have to bite it!

2. Dirty Jigs Finesse

The Finesse is a swim jig, which means you can run it like a traditional jig, or you can run it more like a swim bait.

In the mornings and night, when it's a little cooler, I suggest swimming it around weeds and other underwater structure. In mid day, when the fish move deeper, go ahead and jig it the traditional way.

3. Strike King Ocho

The Strike King Ocho is a big soft plastic bait. This works well in the summer time because bass don't want to expend energy for smaller meals. If they are going to expend energy, better it be on a bigger meal.

This is a basic survival mechanism, and the Ocho can help us take advantage of it.

4. 10 Inch Curly Tail Worm

Now here is a bait that takes BIG to the next level. The first time I fished it, I didn't think I was going to catch a thing. I figured it was too big, but I was wrong.

Just like the Ocho, the bass like a big meal. On top of that, the curly tail gives the bait a wounded prey look, and bass can't pass up wounded prey.

5. Netbait BK Swimbait

I saved the best for last! This bait is phenomenal in so many different situations and conditions, but it really shines in the summer time.

Just make sure to buy a color that is similar to the bait fish in your local water.

Well, that's the quick list for big time bass fishing in summer. Anything I need to add, let me know!

Dirty Jigs Swim Jig Bass Fishing Lure

As the weather gets colder, bass fishing requires a different set of skills to keep putting fish in the boat.

Bass typically like to be active when the weather is a bit warmer, which is why the bass fishing is so good in the spring and in the late summer, early fall. When that winter chill is starting to creep in, you have to do things a little differently.

This is why I like the Dirty Jigs Finesse Swim Jig. When you need a bait that will let you fish slower, stay in the middle of the water column longer, and still come in all the right colors and patterns to entice fish to bite, you need the Finesse.

Since it is a swim jig, it won't dive bomb down to the bottom as quickly as will a regular standard jig. You can fish it with varying speeds, varying retrieves, and varying depths.

This versatility is what sets the Finesse apart among other baits.

Bass fishing doesn't have to be called off just because it is getting colder, you just have to be more creative and try different things to continue putting fish in the boat.

Pflueger President Review

I've been using the Pflueger President for years now, and I couldn't be happier with the results I've managed.

I don't know that there is a simpler spinning reel with the same quality for the same price in the entire sport of bass fishing.

These little guys just do a great job of holding up to whatever it is you want to throw at them. I've had the same President for almost four years now, and besides giving it a little oil, it hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever.

The President has become my main spinning reel for going after panfish. Even though they now make the smaller President XT, I've never had to make the change at all. My original president continues to do the job, and I anticipate it will do so for a long time to come.

You will notice right away how incredibly smooth the retrieve is. Since the reel has 10 bearings in it, there is not a single snag, or annoying stop and start motion to contend with.

If you are in the market for a great reel, at a great price, that will last you for a very long time, I highly recommend the Pflueger President.
